.Air dry your gi as soon as possible. Do not leave your giin your bag. A dark, moist environment promotes bacterial growth and can create a long lasting and sometimes permanent bad smell for your gi.

.Wear a rash guard. This will help absorb a lot of the sweat so that your gi doesn’t have to do this for you.

.Wash your gi. Most BJJ sessions are quite intense and your gi will be soaked in sweat which then requires a good wash. Wash your giin cold water and air dry it to avoid shrinkage. Avoid using bleach or drying in direct sun as this weakens fibres.

.Use white vinegar to remove a funky smell. If your gi is starting to smell, add a spoon of white vinegar to your wash to remove that uninviting odour.

.Rinse blood stains as soon as possible. Yes this will happen, whether its your blood or someone else's. Rinse and scrub the area as soon as possible to prevent the blood from drying and do a full wash as soon as you can.
