There are so many forms of martial arts these days, so how do you choose which one is best for you? Most clubs specialise in one or two forms of martial arts, but at Fight Fit Militia we have exactly what you need to bring out your inner Ninja.
Each form of martial arts has it’s own benefits and you can choose exactly which one is best suited for you. Although all martial arts demand discipline and dedication to progress, aim to promote a health body and mind, and equip the student with skills to defend themselves, each one has it’s own style which will appeal to different people.
Boxing is a popular option for many who want to get fit and learn how to fight. Although you are only using your hands it improves overall body strength and fitness. If you enjoy punching and kicking then Muay Thai and Taekwondo would be the best options to explore.
Muay Thai is known as the “art of eight limbs” which means that you fight using your fists, elbows, knees and shins. There are also instances which involve close contact when clinching where you grip your opponent behind the head and neck. Professional fighters perform a ritual called the Wai Kru before their fights but there are no katas or belts to grade in this art.
Taekwondo was developed in Korea during the 1940s and carries very strict traditions consisting of patterns and routines that the students have to learn. This martial art teaches you to defend yourself using your hands and feet and students are graded with belts and stripes according to their knowledge and experience.
But what is that cool one they do in the cage?
Cage Fighting, also known as Mixed Martial Arts, is a combination of stand up and ground fighting. Although this goes back centuries where the ancient Greeks held competitions where fighters could use “all powers”, the actual term Mixed Martial Arts was born in 1993 where the infamous UFC was developed to prove which fighting style was the best. Fighters from all disciplines across the world would go up against each other convinced that their skills were better than their opponents. As the sport progressed fighters started adding a variety of techniques from different martial arts to their skillset and became all-round fighters. We now have the ever popular MMA. So if you want to learn a variety of skills this could be the one for you.
Is there a way I can learn to fight without getting hit in the face?
Of course there is. We offer everything at our club. We got you.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu will equip you with skills to defend yourself without having to throw a punch. BJJ is a form of ground fighting that involves manipulating the opponent and submitting them by forms of joint locks and chokeholds. Students are graded with belts and stripes as their knowledge and skills improve. Although this sport does not involve any punching and kicking it is still very challenging and requires a lot of fitness.
No matter what your interest is, you will find what you need at Fight Fit Militia, whether you are looking to get fit, learn how to fight or both.
